A special day for both teams, Yeoval’s Ladies Day and a day of remembrance for a special lady Gwen May from Geurie who passed on Saturday morning.
The Goats dominated possession earlier in the game with their big forwards punching holes through Yeoval’s defence and belting the Eagles pack with solid defence.
For the first 10 minutes, the Eagles were stuck in their half but persisted and outsmarted the Goats early with tactical kicking and the luck of a bounce posting the first try of the game scored by fullback Justin Harvey and converted by Matthew Gersbach.
The Goats bounced back straight away through a determined run by centre Nash Forgione splitting the Eagles defence and scoring Geurie’s first try and converted by Harry May.
Nash again ran wild, bursting through minutes later sending Harry away for his first of two tries for the afternoon.
Geurie started to step up a gear again with plenty of possession with prop and captain Siua Sinisa crashing over close to the line after a powerful display of running carrying four defenders with him.
Goats seemed to be doing it easy for most of the first half, but the Eagles backline decided otherwise sending centre Josh Lees over with a great display of speed ending the half with the Goats leading 17-14.
The second half started tightly as both sides tried to dominate possession through their forwards, but the pace of the game eventually came at a price to the Eagles who could not maintain composure with constant pressure from the Goats larger pack who continued to roll through the Eagles defence.
Once on the front foot the Goats backline started to run with centre Nela Matakaonga trampling over the Eagles centres scoring the first of his two tries for the afternoon.
Second Rower Irrangi Ranga was next bursting through the centre of the field scoring between the post putting the game out of reach for the Eagles.
Harry May scored next and the bell could not come quick enough for the Eagles as the Goats put on a great second half display of rugby. Jake Sykes converted three as the Goats put the boot through the Yeoval Eagles with the fulltime score 43-14.
This Saturday, July 29 at 3.15pm the Goats celebrate their Ladies and Sponsors Day as they face off against the Wellington Redbacks at the Geurie Showground in what will be a very tough, physical bout. Ladies and sponsors will be spoilt with refreshments and free entry for an enjoyable day of rugby.
