The men’s division came up against the defending champions and from the outset they looked to dominate the game.
While the opening exchanges indicated Wellington would win in a cantor, SDW were determined to put up a fight through solid defence which wasn’t able to be broken despite all efforts.
It wasn’t until some individual brilliance from the revitalised Ben Turner that Wellington opened the scorecard and took the lead.
For the first 15 minutes of second half the match was an even game with Wellington creating and wasting chances and SDW defending resolutely to shut them down.
A goal from Claude Lewsam was the catalyst to break their resistance and once Wellington got their second the flood gates opened.
Damien Bell scored a cracking volley at the back post to further the boys lead.
Wellington then slotted in a further two goals before Turner scored what was described as “the goal of the year”, leaping up from a corner and volleying the ball with such ferocity that one wonders how it didn't break the net.
As the final whistle went the score was 6-nil to the Wellington boys with Ben Turner voted man of the match. Goals went to Richard Fitzsimmons, Claude Lewsam, and two goals each to Ben Turner and Damien Bell.
In the women’s division the Warriors travelled to Narromine. Both teams were slow off the blocks and struggled to find rhyme to their play.
Defence dominated the game as chances were few and far between, but it was Narromine who put away the first goal with a cracking shot from distance just evading the outstretched hands of Kayla Veech.
Narromine were awarded a dubious free kick about 30 yards out which their talented centre back converted into a goal to give them an extended lead at half time, 2-nil.
Positional changes at half time worked wonders for the Warriors as the girls began to create chances and establish periods of domination over their rivals.
However, Sunday was not the Wellington’s day with the Narromine keeper making some nice saves, the ball striking the post and a bizarre decision by the ref all working against any potential fight back the girls could muster.
Narromine ran out winners, 2-nil.
Player of the match was Elle Flanagan.
In the other game today the wildcats had a resounding victory 15-1 victory.
