The “Remember when...” luncheon was held at the Wellington Golf Club where guests were treated to old style food and deserts, as well as sharing items from their childhood.
A theme of ‘dress as your parents would have’ saw guests arrive in attire of the past, popular choices being pearls, fur coats and hats, stockings and even a flappers outfit from the roaring ‘20s.
Wellington Branch Red Cross president, Bev Hutchinson, said it was a feel-good event that everyone rallied around.
Red Cross Life Member and Wellington Branch patron, Helen Norris, was intrigued by the items on display. She too provided a display of war-time sewing items and books.
"In the sewing box we had a darning wooden mushroom block, fine wool and silk thread to mend the lyle or silk stockings,” she said.
The luncheon was held in conjunction with the town’s bicentennial celebrations.
