Demand has been high as the weather has turned cold, and staff at the Warne Street store are asking for donations of any clean bedding and clothing to help the needy.
And with Elders Weather Bureau predicting the temperature to drop to zero degrees throughout the week the call to rummage through your wardrobes has become urgent.
Store manager Peter Duffy said the store is struggling to meet the needs of the community’s less fortunate.
He said it is a struggle the store faces every year and can be eased through the generosity of the community.
Peter added that there is a particular shortage of winter apparel for men, as well as blankets and doonas.
“This is the time of the year that St Vincent de Paul gets together all over the state with their winter appeal,” Peter said.
“We had a lot of blankets that people donated earlier on in the year and they’ve gone, we’ve run out of the blankets and that’s what we need badly.
“Blankets and doonas, along with the clothing.”
He said the team at the Wellington will take any donations the community has to spare.
“The items we are mainly asking for are jumpers, coats, jackets, blankets and sheets – anything that the under-privileged need badly,” Peter said.
“We have a large number of people who need help with warm clothing, so if you could find it in your hearts to help St Vincent de Paul to help these people it would be great.
“Thanking you and God bless.”
Anyone wanting to make a donation can drop it at the Family Store at 48-58 Warne Street or call 6845 2951.
