The presentation was attended to by around 40 people including NSW SES region staff, Senior Sargent Ross Gibson, and Bryson Rees of Dubbo Regional Council.
Regional Controller NSW SES Macquarie Region, David Monk, was on hand to present the NSW Government’s National Medal to lead rescue operator, Nathan Bullivant.
Nathan received the award in recognition of his dedication to the service which in turn saw him presented the 10 years long-service award.
Wellington Unit deputy controller, Brigid Rice, said Nathan and his family have contributed a lot over this time.
“Nathan is one of our lead rescue operators, he attends rescues and is actually pivotal in developing our new rescue operators because he has so much experience,” she said.
Nathan first joined the SES for personal reasons and to give back to the community. He has since learnt invaluable skills in a position that has taken him around the state responding to emergencies.
“Everything you do you always have your ups and downs but I’ve really enjoyed working with a vast amount of people in different areas,” he said.
“I’d like to stick around, there’s a few things I haven’t achieved yet so I’d like to pursue them when I have the opportunity in between work.”
He thanked his SES family for the opportunity.
“I’d like to thank the SES for not only putting up with me but teaching me a large variety of skills that I can use in the SES, workplace and day-to-day life,” he said.
“I’d like to thank everyone that’s taught me a thing or two throughout the 10 years.”
Fellow SES member Tarni Hawkins also received an award on the evening.
Tarni was voted Member of the Year by her fellow crew for the commitment she has shown to training and building the unit’s presence on social media. She was presented her award by Controller NSW SES Wellington Unit, Sonsera Boles.
During the last 12 months she has completed Level Three in Flood Rescue and launched the NSW SES Wellington Unit Facebook page.
Three more members – Sonsera Boles, Stephen Ball and Tyrone Kiernan – were presented with five-year service awards for long service.
