Wellington College Team Leader, Adam Peckham, said about 20 people attended the day where they were informed on course information, support services, given a tour of the campus and treated to a barbecue lunch.
“It was a really good day, we’re targeting the people that we want,” Adam said.
“We’re trying to get that younger generation, and at the end of the day we want to give them the confidence to be able to pursue jobs.”
Adam said those who attended showed interest in hands-on learning such as welding and construction that would lead to them gaining employment in Wellington.
He said the majority of those who attended the open day were school leavers or middle-aged people interested in taking up a course.
“At the end of the day that’s what they’re doing courses for, to gain employment or be qualified for positions at the end of it,” Adam said.
Those who weren’t able to attend the open day are encouraged to call into the Maughan Street premises.
“Come along and have a bit of a yarn and see what courses are available,” Adam said. “Whether you want to study online, face-to-face or learn about flexible delivery.”
