The Warriors kicked off at 11am on Sunday in a close affair with both teams hungry for a win.
The first half saw Wellington dominate possession, however the small Gulgong field left the boys struggling to play their usual high tempo game.
A goal by Nick Streicher saw the teams go into half time locked at 1-all. Second half was much the same affair, however the Warriors were able to create more chances allowing Paul Campion to find the back of the net.
Brendan Carter popped up from a corner and powered home a header goal to give Wellington a 3-1 lead with 20 minutes remaining.
Gulgon clawed their way back into the game to make for a nail-biting end to the match, however Wellington held on to claim a gritty win.
Man of the Match was Nick Streicher.
The women’s division hosted table high fliers Narromine in a pulsating game.
Swift defence from the backs led to minimal chances for the heavily fancied Narromine side who couldn’t find the net in first half.
The Warriors weren’t able to capitalise on their field dominance and Narromine wrestled their way into the game. A handball from the Warriors landed in the top corner of the net to put Narromine in the lead with four minutes to go.
Kelly Chown was named Man of the Match.
The Wellington Wildcats took a 9-1 victory over EDU.
Women will host SDW this week while the men play Westside in Dubbo.
