Last Thursday at Dubbo, 4200 Prime cattle were penned in a mixed quality yarding with only odd pens of well finished trade cattle and grown steers in the penning. It was mostly a cheaper market, trade vealers rose 13 cents, trade yearlings fell 9 cents, young feeders dropped 7 to 11 cents, restocker young steers reached 407 cents. The limited selection of heavy steers were around firm, heavy heifers topped at 317 cents, cows lost 2 to 6 cents. Quotations - calves 306, steer vealers 343 to 407, heifer vealers 308 to 386, steer yearlings 305 to 389, heifer yearlings 281 to 348, heavy steers 255 to 353, bullocks 285 to 340, heavy heifers 230 to 332, light cows 165 to 227, medium cows 170 to 241, heavy cows 231 to 246 and bulls 230 to 406.
At Dubbo on Friday 1100 Store cattle penned which included some top runs of good quality Angus steers and heifers from the Geurie district along with the usual plainer types. Cows and calves were limited and the market remained firm, steer weaners sold from $440 to $1210 to avg $820 or 375 cents per kg, weaner heifers ranged from $420 to $935 to avg $715 or 322 cents per kg, steer yearlings traded from $810 to $1050 to avg $928 or 306 cents per kg, heifer yearlings realised $530 to $1050 to avg $937 or 285 cents per kg, PTIC cows made $1200 to $1490 to avg $1395, cows and calves sold from $930 to $2400 for a pen of Angus from the Arthurville area.
On Monday at Dubbo 22,100 lambs penned in a good quality yarding with a good selection of both trade and heavy lambs with plenty of lightweight lambs from the far west. It was a cheaper market, processor light lambs fell $7 and trade lambs lost $9 to $15 and more in places, heavy lambs were down $10 to $20. Merino lambs were $3 cheaper with trades ranging from $126 to $150; restocker lambs were firm with first cross ewe lambs reaching $170 and fatteners $100, hoggets topped at $155. Quotations - light lamb $71 to $122, medium lamb $108 to $143, heavy lamb $127 to $153, supermarket lamb $135 to $176, export lamb $166 to $192. 8300 Mutton penned in a mixed quality yarding, light and medium Merinos lost $5 to $10 while the better Merinos rose $4 to $9.
Quotations: light ewes $45 to $95, medium ewes $80 to $148, heavy ewes $120 to $170, light wethers $82, medium wethers $94 to $148, heavy wethers $130 to $170 and rams $95 to $127.
