The decision to postpone to the under-16s and under-18s deciders, both of which will feature Western teams, was made on Thursday.
The will now be played next Saturday, April 8, at Cessnock Sportaground.
The decision to abandon the match’s this weekend was made due to the severe flooding and wild weather in the north-east region of the state which was creating unsafe travelling conditions for the East Coast Dolphins under-16s side’s players, their families and supporters.
The East Coast Dolphins will take on the Western Rams in the under-16s final at 9:30am with the 18s match between undefeated rivals Western Rams and Newcastle Rebels to follow that at 11am.
Country Rugby League (CRL) CEO Terry Quinn declared player and personal safety to be at the forefront of the decision when speaking on Thursday.
“The adverse weather conditions on the North Coast of New South Wales have created unsafe conditions for our players, families and supporters to travel in and for the safety of all involved, the decision to postpone the under-16 and 18 Country Championship Finals has been agreed upon,” he said.
