Senior Activities Officer Wendy Ambachtsheer said the “Youth Republic 2820” space has been under renovation and the PCYC can’t wait to officially open it.

“It will be great to unveil the space so the public can see that we’re providing for the youth in the area,” she said.

Ms Ambachtsheer said the unveiling will be part of a full day of celebrations and everyone in-and-around Wellington is invited.

“During the day we’ll be hosting a lot of activities for kids and parents to come and enjoy,” she said.

Mr Grant said the new youth space at the Wellington PCYC will improve engagement and participation of young people in the community.

“All it takes is one positive influence in a kid’s life to help them turn a corner – and that is exactly what this new space is all about.

“We know how successful these youth spaces are in getting young people focused on positive pastimes, and also allowing disadvantaged kids to have a go at things that would otherwise not be available to them,” he said.

Mr Grant said families in Wellington will benefit from this new space too.

“Parents can be assured that this facility will provide no end of good for local youths, as well as the opportunity for whole families to get involved.

“Whether it’s through sporting activities, employment assistance, community education, or mentoring opportunities, the PCYC will now be better equipped to keep providing the services that not only reduce juvenile crime, but give all our local kids a safe and secure place to have fun.

“On the 80th Anniversary of the Wellington PCYC, I would like to thank all those involved in this marvellous community initiative for the fantastic work they do every day. They make our community stronger, safer and more cohesive,” he said.
