This is the share offer that real estate guru, John McGrath, is using to retain the top talent at his embattled property shop, McGrath Ltd.

The share scheme was one of a number of details to emerge from the public release of McGrath Future - the long-term incentive package designed to prevent the sort of exodus that helped trigger its latest profit downgrade and send the stock to fresh lows.

The real estate group is aiming this share scheme at what it calls "pinnacle agents", who generate $750,000 to $2,000,000 of fees in their first year with the group.

They are given an interest-free $75,000 loan to buy shares in McGrath.

"It vests for three years. At the end of three years, whatever the issue price was on the day that they were issued, if there is a profit, they take the profit. If there was a loss, they don't take the loss," McGrath Estate Agents' head of company sales, Kon Stathopoulos, in an interview with trade publication Real Estate Business.

McGrath listed in December 2015 priced at $2.10 a share. It is now trading at a record low of 67??.

It means that investors who bought $75,000 of stock in the McGrath IPO are now sitting on an investment worth less than $25,000. So the ability to walk away from any losses is a good one for the agents.

But does it mean the McGrath Group is basically on the hook financially if its shares continue to tank? Apparently not, insiders told CBD it plans to issue new shares.

But it will be on the hook financially for the other incentives designed to attract and retain these top-performing agents.

The other incentives include some sort of recruitment bonus. It appears to give agents who successfully poach other agents to the group a percentage of the new recruits' business as an annuity income.

There is also a "high-performance bonus commission plan" for the new agents as well as a property management partnership program.

Taxing times

Gina Rinehart may have soared up the Forbes annual rich list, she is the only Australian in the top 100, but money can't buy happiness can it. Or, in Rinehart's case, a happy family.

Estranged daughter, Bianca Rinehart, has been given the go ahead to sue her mum over managing the multibillion-dollar family trust, including allegations she "improperly spent company money on personal expenses".

And the worst part is that it has taken all the attention away from her role as Australia's largest private taxpayer.

"Hancock Prospecting, after decades of hard work and effort, is the country's largest private taxpayer, paying more than $3 billion in taxes since 2011," said the company release this week from Mrs Rinehart's lieutenant Sophie Mirabella.

At least this is something the whole family can take pride in given 24 per cent of Hancock Prospecting is owned by the kids' trust.

"It is only through private-sector companies, such as Hancock, investing, earning profits and then paying taxes that governments are able to provide vital services such as the police force, our defence forces, pensions, veterans support and healthcare," said the release.

CBD decided to dig into some data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics because your columnist was sure the humble taxpayer plays a role too.

"Income taxes levied on individuals in 2014-15 represented 41.1 per cent of total taxation revenue, up from 37.4 per cent in 2009-10. In comparison, income taxes levied on enterprises represented 16.5 per cent," said the ABS.

Not so current

And in late dispatches from the big meeting last week of boutique fund manager Pacific Current Group - which saved the skin of the Mike Fitzpatrick-led board - it appears that the retiring AFL chairman and his fellow directors were so confident of the outcome they did not bother to actually show up.

"For such an important meeting, the shareholders who did turn up could have been forgiven for feeling short-changed," huffed renegade investor, Michael de Tocqueville, who led a group voting against the restructure.

As Fitzpatrick might have said in his AFL playing days, "winners are grinners".
