Both the boys’ and girls’ teams made the trip over to take on all the Catholic schools in the Western Diocese.
St Mary’s sports coordinator Alistaire Thompson said all touch teams represented the school in the traditional way by putting in a huge positive effort and working hard as a team.
The girls’ team had a very successful day finishing undefeated for the first time in their diocese history.
The wins over St Raphael’s Cowra 5-1, Mackillop Bathurst 3-2, St Johns Dubbo 2-1, St Matthews Mudgee 3-2, La Salle Lithgow 3-1 powered the girls home.
Mr Thompson said the team again has a huge mixture of both primary and secondary students.
“All of the students are ready to run with the pack and that showed on the score board with many of the girls crossing the line with tries,” he said.
Sophie Whiteman 4, Ella James 3, Claudia Whiteman, Bridgette Carney 3, Piper Kierle, Millie Mills, Airlie Mason, Demi Owens and Bonnie Sheridan crossing the line to score.
Mr Thompson said the boys’ team also crossed for some great tries.
“Ethan Pratt scored 4, Ethan Styles 3, Jesse Mills 2, Harry O’Donnell and Sam McCarroll also scoring in their round of matches.”
The day was to select the diocese teams to trial for the NSW CCC teams in Dubbo on May 24.
Sophie Whiteman, Ella James, Ethan Pratt and Sam McCarroll all made it into the possible and probable game.
Mr Thompson said the season has only just began.
“The girls traveled to Kinross over the weekend.
“Next both the boys’ and girls’ teams are taking on Molong Central in Wellington on Wednesday.
“This is only the beginning of another year for our teams,” he said.
“We hope to build on each game as a team and move forward together as a positive group,” he said.
Ella James and Sam McCarroll have been selected to represent the Bathurst Diocese.
"Both students played well and deserved to make it into the Diocese team, we were unlucky not to have more selected after being undefeated in the girls for the day.
“Ella and Sam worked hard all day and should be very proud of themselves as well as all their team mates for a big day in very humid conditions," Mr Thompson said.
Mr Thompson commended all the students who played throughout the day.
