The trainer recently appealed a 15-month ban for findings of increased levels of cobalt in two horses in November last year.
Southern Flight, one of the horses found to have increased levels of cobalt, finished a length clear of Leslie Bryant’s Skywishes in the Macquarie Media Spa Class 1 Handicap (Scaled – 1.0kg) (1100 metres).
Terry Fahey’s Enduring ran sixth in the same race.
Cecil Maxwell’s Lucky Striker ran third in the Bathurst RSL Benchmark 65 Handicap (1300 metres).
Mudgee trainer Cameron Crokett’s Jar of Hearts continued the promising start to her career at Tyers Park on Monday with her victory in the Schweppes Class 2 Handicap (1,300 metres).
Jockey Greg Ryan helped Jar Of Hearts ($2 favourite) earn her second straight win, and her fourth victory in 10 career races, to follow on from her success at Parkes last start.
Crockett continues to be impressed by the mare.
“She’s just come back really, really good after a spell. She strengthened up quite a bit and she’s run quite well there,” he said.
“I was quite happy with the way she was ridden. She’s normally a little bit closer but I was happy for her to be where she was stepping up to the 1300m. We’re going to go up to 1400m next for The Championships...”
