I want to extend my thanks and appreciation to all firefighters, support crews and aircraft crews who spent countless hours fighting the fire at Wuuluman, between Wellington and Mudgee. The fire burnt out over 2,700 hectares of land and for the first time a helicopter equipped with infrared and night scoping could focus on hot spots to help fire fighters keep the blaze within containment lines.

Dripstone Bridge
It was a privilege to open on last Monday the $1.98 million upgrade to Dripstone Bridge on the Burrendong Way, near Wellington. This investment was a true partnership between the State Government and Dubbo Regional Council, funded under the NSW Fixing Country Roads program.
The upgraded bridge replaces an old timber structure and removes the weight limit and is now capable of carrying B-Doubles. This is a significant improvement as Burrendong Way is a major livestock freight route and the upgraded bridge eliminates up for 40kms of detours for heavy vehicles.
The NSW Government through the Fixing Country Roads program is providing vital funding to local councils to improve roads and bridges, eliminating constraints on local roads and boosting the NSW economy.Continuing Dubbo Hospital redevelopment
Last week I announced that construction company Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd has been awarded the tender to construct an additional floor on top of Dubbo Hospital’s new clinical services building.
The additional floor will include a new inpatient unit and construction is due to begin in the next few weeks. Work will also begin to refurbish the old maternity building for the Medical Records Department and education facilities.
This important milestone follows the launch of Schematic Design for Stages 3 and 4 of Redevelopment, which was unveiled by Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Mr Grant in November last year.
The project is being delivered in stages to ensure minimal disruption.
Project user groups (PUGs) will work on the detailed design of each room and clinical space for the remaining services included in the redevelopment in the coming weeks.
In addition, surrounding communities will have their chance to provide input when the plans are taken on a road show in early February.
Supporting disadvantaged students
As the start of the school year fast approaches students from disadvantaged families in the Dubbo electorate are being urged to apply for new scholarships worth $1000 to support their education. Students are encouraged to apply online at www.facs.nsw.gov.au/education
