Terry Fahey, who earned his nickname during his playing years with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, has relocated his training to the Wellington stables after previously operating out of Dubbo.
‘I needed a shift – needed a bit of a change. It’s quieter here and the horses look a lot nicer,” Mr Fahey said.
Mr Fahey has been in the horse racing game for around ten years, but has always had a keen interest in all forms of racing.
“I’ve always liked racing… I used to have greyhounds before I got into the horses.”
Mr Fahey said at the moment his focus is on training his young horses to be ready for racing, rather than winning.
“I want to make sure that the horses are actually ready to race. I don’t want to throw them in too early.
“I will be keeping my eye out for new horses to train up,” he said.
As part of his team, Mr Fahey has Daniel Pitamac and Kath Bell as his track work riders and they work closely together.
Mr Fahey said the Wellington Race Club has plans to add 20 more stables.
“I’ll hopefully be taking over those if that all goes ahead, which I hope it does.”
Mr Fahey said he has felt extremely welcome by all involved with the Wellington Race Club and is looking forward to his future in town.
