The resident, riding a motorbike, was heading to work on Thursday morning about 6.45am when he found a single cab utility smouldering on a farm access road.
Emergency services were called to the farm access road on Tabain Road and Deveril Road at Merungle Hill.
Police, Leeton Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service attended.
Griffith Local Area Command Inspector Kim Traynor said inquiries would be continuing.
“It soon became apparent (to emergency services) there was a body inside and a crime scene was established,” she said.
“The person (who remains unidentified) was found in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
“Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.”
The vehicle had not hit any stationary items such as a tree or another car.
Detectives and forensic police from Griffith Local Area Command remain on the scene and are working to identify the person and establish the cause of the blaze.
