This will be my last weekly update for 2016, school is out and Christmas is only a few sleeps away. It is the time of the year that family and friends get together, enjoy each other’s company and reflect on the year that was. It is also the time of year for giving and receiving, offering thanks and thinking of those less fortunate.

Congratulations to 2016 HSC students
I would like to congratulate local year 12 students who received their HSC results on Thursday and subsequently, their ATAR on Friday. Students should feel very proud of their achievements. The HSC is a rigorous and demanding credential with a world-class reputation that prepares our students for life beyond school. I wish all students the very best in their future endeavours, whether they are planning to head to university, vocational education or to join the workforce.
Several students in the Dubbo electorate are among the distinguished achievers in this year’s HSC. 77,000 students sat at least one HSC subject, so to be on the distinguished achievers list is an incredible achievement students should be very proud of. For those who didn’t get the results they hoped for, there are other options available.
Stay safe these holidays
I would urge families who are packing up the car and heading out on a road trip these holidays to slow down, stay alert and be safe on the road. While we’ve made considerable ground in driving down the NSW road toll, there has been a recent spike and sadly many people have lost their lives this year.
Every death on our roads is heartbreaking – and one, is too many. Everyone needs to take more care. I know holidays are a time to relax, but there’s no room for complacency on the road. To keep you and the family safe remember it is important you don’t drive while tired, don’t touch your mobile phone and don’t rush – speeding kills.
