With Christmas fast approaching I’m looking forward to spending more time in and around the electorate before the annual break. Last Monday I had the opportunity to have morning tea at the Gulgong Aged Care Hostel, visited the Red Hill Mine Shaft and announced NSW Government funding for the Gulgong Holtermann Museum.

Gulgong’s Holtermann Museum
Gulgong’s Holtermann Museum is set to be expanded with a $287,000 grant from the NSW Government.
The grant will go towards building a multi-purpose building, an exhibition room with office space, visitor reception, research area and a courtyard that will cater for a variety of activities and be used by locals and tourists of all ages.
The funding has been secured through the NSW Government’s ClubGRANTS Category 3 scheme for arts and culture infrastructure and will also involve restoration of the rear wall of the main historic building.
This funding will greatly benefit the region with the multi-purpose building to be used as a small theatre, a venue for workshops or exhibitions and include storage facilities.
I’m proud the NSW Government has awarded funding for this project that has been a labour of love for so many who have fundraised and dedicated their time to preserving our local heritage. The Gulgong Holtermann Museum will be a place that the community can be proud of.
2016 Christmas card winner
The Christmas Card Competition is always the highlight of the year, last week I had the privilege of announcing the winner.
Mudgee Public School Kindergarten student Maggie Blackman took out the prize.
The entries received this year were first class which made my decision to pick a winner a tough but enjoyable task. Maggie Blackman from Mudgee was our overall winner this year with Ella Jones from Dubbo and Cody Tickle from Geurie taking 2nd & 3rd places.
I would like to thanks each and every student who sent in an entry, their work was outstanding; I am already looking forward to next year’s competition.
First place went to Maggie Blackman, of Mudgee Public School, second place was Ella Jones, of Macquarie Anglican Grammar School, Dubbo and third place was Cody Tickle, of Geurie Public School.
McKenzie Davis, of Cudgegong Public School, and Lauren Carrier, of Mudgee Public School, were highly commended.
Switching on the regions
With almost $40 million invested in the Mobile Black Spots Program, locals and businesses in the Dubbo electorate will soon see internet access and reception bars on their mobile phones, as new towers are secured as part of the new mobile base stations listed in round two.
Last week I announced two towers are to be switched on in the Dubbo electorate, one at Ballimore and the other at Hargraves.
