Ladies’ Golf
Today see's the 2016 Ladies Golf Season wrapping up with their Presentation Day. Proceedings will begin with a "nine hole" fun event followed by the Luncheon/Presentation Christmas Party. The season has been a very successful one despite losing a number of weeks to wet weather and a shorten course due to the floods. Many thanks to President Denise Haesler and Captain Sue Martin for being great leaders, the Club's Board under the great leadership of Robert Baker and the Course Greenkeepers Damien Bell, Mitchell Cusack and all the many volunteers for making it look spectacular.
Open Tournament: 62 players played in the Wellington Open Tournament last week, a great role up considering this event was put back two weeks due to the Course only being fully opened one week from the original date because of the floods and associated damage.
Players came from Orange, Dubbo, Mudgee, Canowindra, Narromine, Warren, Gulgong, Dunedoo, Forbes, Molong and Cumnock as well as many local players.
The winner was Chantelle Greaves (Dunedoo) with 82 off the stick. Chantelle is an Australian Deaf representative player, playing off a handicap of eight, not a bad effort from the nine hole "sand greens" of Dunedoo. Runner Up was our own Marie Cornish on a countback from Julie Headley (Mudgee) both with 88, with the Mudgee Club taking home most of the day's event prizes.
These tournaments cannot be held without exceptional help from lots of people. Thank you to Robert Baker (Starter), Peter Bryant, Col Arnold and Rex England for doing Card Duties, Pauline Potts (Bar), Kathy Martin (Tickets), Sue Martin, Bev Brien, Noella Baker (Kitchen Crew), Green Keepers (Damien/Mitchell) and their helpers along with every other Wellington player that assisted to make the day a great success.
"12" Hole Wednesday Summer and the "9" Hole Twilight Competitions. The :12" Hole Competition will begin shortly, taking a week's break before it will start. This is usually a 8am start but whilst the weather is remaining cool, might be 8.30am. The "9" Hole Competition commenced in October and runs till the end of March when daylight savings finishes.
A number of players are already participating and remember this year, you can play either Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday as long as playing with a Club member or someone else who is playing in this competition.
Men’s Champions: Congratulations to Kurt Cusack (baby brother and son) on winning the Club's 2016 Championships, no doubt it was a nervous last two rounds playing along side Dad and James, maybe if Mitchell had played it could have been a family affair. Well done also to young Lewis McCarthy for picking up B Grade and Junior Champion along with Geoff Walker in C Grade and Veterans.
100 year Birthday Celebrations: Jeanie Mostyn recently celebrated her 100th Birthday with nieces (Gae Drew, Noela Baker, Tracey Parker), son Peter and her immediate family. Congratulations from everyone at Wellington Golf Club.
