They travelled to Bathurst on October 19 to compete in the NSW Regional Qualifier Carnival, blitzing the competition.
The girls, nicknamed the ‘Wolf Pack’, had a tough start to the day, triumphing over Orange’s Canobolas High School 2-1, followed by a 3-1 win over La Salle Academy from Lithgow and a 5-nil win over Mudgee High School.
The ‘Wolf Pack’ then played Kandos High School in the semi final, dominating play and winning 5-nil, and earning their spot in the grand final.
They then played Mudgee High School again, who had defeated Orange High School to win their way into the final.
It was a hard-fought contest, but the ‘Wolf Pack’ took a 2-nil lead five minutes into the game.
Mudgee High fought back, but were unable to tie-up the scores and the St Mary’s girls finished the carnival off with a 2-1 victory.
St Mary’s PE teacher and team coach Alistaire Thompson said for the girls to make state is a great achievement for them all, and also for the school.
“It was an amazing day I am so proud of this group of girls, they have trained so hard all year and never gave up all day.”
The girls are resuming training to prepare for the State Finals in November.
