The information session will be held at the Wellington Soldiers Club at 7pm on October 11. 

Minister for Justice and Dubbo MP Troy Grant said the roadshow would visit Dubbo, Wellington, Orange and Parkes. 

CSNSW began recruiting after the August announcement the Wellington Correctional Centre would be expanded to include a rapid-build prison.

The jail will require an additional 120 correctional officers to manage the increase in inmate population when the expansion is completed mid-next year.

It is expected the expansion will create an extra 220 jobs, including psychologists and administration.

“The NSW government is investing $3.8 billion in expanding the correctional system by an additional 7000 beds in the next four years, including a new rapid-build, 400-bed prison in Wellington,” Mr Grant said.

CSNSW recruitment project leader Megan Loadsman said new custodial officer recruits will participate in 10 weeks of paid training at the Brush Farm Corrective Services Academy in Sydney or on-site at regional correctional centres.

Staff will also receive ongoing development and mentoring programs once in the correctional centre.

“Being a correctional officer is a rewarding career that provides job security, flexible work arrangements and competitive pay,” Ms Loadsman said.

“These information sessions are a perfect opportunity for people living in Wellington and the surrounding areas to understand what the role of a correctional officer involves.

“Corrective Services welcomes people from different walks of life and age groups, which has helped build a diverse workforce.

“In particular, we are hoping to attract more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds to take up available opportunities.”
