Junior students at the Wellington Martial Arts school recently tested for what would be for some, their first ever steps forward in kung fu and for others, the arrival at the black sash level.

Taking their first steps to yellow sash were Roman Higgins, Locke Goninan, Jay Carpenter, Addison Horan, Tyler and Ryder Gilpin, Rekai Austin, Jamin Austin and Rhett Austin-Coon.
Young Brock Croker-Mara achieved brown sash while Teirly Jones and Liam Cole made their way to black sash.
“Kung Fu 4 Kids is a great way for your child to develop as a person and learn to defend themselves in an ever violent world,” Ron Goninan said.
“The new “Bully-Buster” program will soon be introduced as part of the on-going classes.
“Interested people can phone 6842846, 0432792125 or come along to a class on Tuesdays 5.30pm until 6.30pm and best of all each class is free.”
