It is set to be a great contest again this year, with both schools coming out of the regional carnival in excellent form – both schools made it to the grand finals but went down to Red Bend College Forbes.
St Mary’s girls team won all of their pool games to go into the finals against Mudgee, who they downed 2-1 in a hard-fought extra time drop-off win. The boys finished the day with one win, two draws and one loss.
The Wellington High School girls also finished the day with some excellent tries and wins, while the boys won all of their pool games and defeated Parkes to book a place in the grand final.
The team was run well by middle Rylee Blackhall, who generated a lot of space for his speedy outside teammates.
The stage is now set for the two schools to do battle this Friday from 9.30am at Wellington High School.
