At Dubbo last Thursday a reduced penning of 2430 prime cattle in a good quality yarding of mostly properly fattened cattle. Trade young cattle rose 2 to 6 cents, feeder steers and medium-weight feeder heifers fell 5 to 9 cents while the heavier heifers gained 3 cents. Restocker young steers were dearer, reaching 456 cents per kg. Heavy steers improved 8 cents. Heavy heifers topped at 350 cents. Cows were firm to a little dearer.
Quotations: calves 260 to 400, steer vealers 360 to 456, heifer vealers 350 to 408, steer yearlings 333 to 411, heifer yearlings 268 to 391, heavy steers 295 to 380, bullocks 293 to 367, heavy heifers 218 to 350, light cows 244 to 262, medium cows 210 to 271, heavy cows 253 to 293 and bulls 239 to 344.
No store cattle sales were held in the central west last week.
Monday at Dubbo 21750 lambs penned in a fair quality yarding with a pretty good selection of new season’s lambs and trade-weight old lambs. Reasonable numbers of heavy weights were yarded. But, extra heavy weights were limited compared to last week. Processor light lambs were around firm, trade-weight new season’s lambs fell $8 to $10, trade-weight old lambs were firm, heavyweight lambs lost $8, merino lambs improved $6, with trade weights selling from $92 to $138 while the heavy end topped at $143. Restockers paid to $122 and hoggets sold to $127.
Quotations: light young lamb $100, medium young lamb $96 to $135, heavy young lamb $122 to $138. Light young supermarket lamb $134 to $156. Light lamb $66 to $102, medium lamb $86 to $142, heavy lambs $109 to $153, supermarket lambs $125 to $167 export lambs $155 to $188.
7580 mutton penned in a good quality yarding with most grades finishing firm to $3 dearer.
Quotations: light ewes $56 to $81, medium ewes $64 to $118, heavy ewes $111 to $136, light wethers $75 to $82, medium wethers $82 to $123, heavy wethers $122 to $135, rams $85 to $130, ram lambs $116 to $143.
Schute Bell report last week’s wool offering was small with the western region not selling and export competition staying strong. Gains were made over both selling days. The Aussie dollar was approximately 1 cent lower against the US $. 28503 bales were sold.
