The 20 students and six staff from Wellington High School are counting the days until boarding their flight on September 29.
They will spend the next 11 days as guests of the Real Madrid Foundation, a branch of the world-famous Real Madrid Football Club.
Wellington High was the first school in Australia to accept a partnership with the foundation and had not looked back since it began 13 months ago, coach-coordinator Brooke George said.
The values of the foundation encourage education through sport and all ambassadors of the program display qualities associated with companionship and respect.
“We are very proud to be known as Wellington High School, Social Sport School of the Real Madrid Foundation,” Mrs George said.
While in Madrid, students will be meeting with students from other social sports schools from across the globe.
They will play two matches of football.
“This will undoubtedly be a highlight, however it will be incredibly hard to beat watching the world famous Real Madrid Firsts team play at the world renowned Santiago Bernabeu Stadium,” Mrs George said.
“Somewhere in the 81,000 seat capacity stadium, will be 26 fanatics from Wellington.”
