“Due to the resignations of the previous members elected in the 2015 NSW General Election, by-elections have been triggered in the seats of Orange and Canterbury,” Mrs Hancock said.
“Based on the advice given to me by the Acting Electoral Commissioner, and in consultation with the Premier and Leader of the Opposition, I today announce that I have decided that the date for the by-elections in the seats of Orange and Canterbury will be Saturday 12th November 2016,” Mrs Hancock said.
“When consulted by the Government, I advised that the Commission’s preferred date to conduct the by-elections was Saturday, 12thNovember 2016. This was based on our logistical and resource capabilities in light of our management of the upcoming September Local Council elections, as well as the recent implementation of theLocal Government and Elections Legislation Amendment (Integrity) Act 2016,” said Acting Electoral Commissioner, Linda Franklin.
The writs for these by-elections will be issued in due course.
