A 22-year-old man was arrested at Wellington Police station on Monday night and charged over the alleged sexual assault of a young girl earlier this year.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad started an investigation following reports the young girl had been sexually assaulted during a break in at a home in Shoalhaven on Friday, March 18, 2016.
Following inquiries, the 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with aggravated break and enter, committing a serious indictable offence; and sexual intercourse with a child under 10 years.
The man was refused bail to appear at Parkes Local Court on Monday, August 1.
The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.
