Advisory from Western Plains Regional Council
If your property is impacted by floodwaters at the above heights the time to act is now. NSW SES urges motorists to take extreme care as there is water flowing across causeways and some local roads. Motorists are advised not to drive through floodwater as they may be deep and fast flowing and contain hidden snags and debris.
People working or camping along the Bell and Macquarie Rivers should continue to monitor river heights. Farmers and landholders are advised to relocate livestock, pumps and machinery to higher ground.
- Waste and chemical containers should be located well above predicted flood levels. Farmers are advised to contact their local LLS Ranger or Industry and Investment NSW for assistance. If isolation is expected to occur due to floodwaters or impassable roads, people are advised to stock up now on food fuel and other essential items. Don’t forget your pets and working animals.
- The NSW SES advises: never drive, ride or walk through floodwaters do not allow children near floodwater, especially stormwater drains and creeks never enter floodwaters as they are extremely dangerous due to strong currents, hidden debris and pollutants ensure you can leave the area safely if conditions deteriorate - in particular be aware that exit routes may be cut before your location is affected obey instructions from emergency service personnel listen to local radio for weather updates, warnings and emergency advice call the SES on 132 500 for emergency assistance For life threatening emergencies, call 000 immediately. FloodSafe advice is available at www.ses.nsw.gov.au
Flood water warning.......
Orana Police are appealing to drivers not to drive into flood waters after police had to effect two rescues within 40 minutes this morning. In the first matter police and SES personnel were despatched to Arthurvillie Road, Geurie, about 9.40am after a driver entered a flooded causeway and the car stalled. The water in the causeway commenced to rise to a point where the car started to rock. Police on scene entered the water and rescued the female driver who was shaken from the incident but not hurt. In the second matter, about 10.20 this morning a driver entered a flooded causeway on Minore Road, Dubbo. The car stalled and the driver was trapped due to rising waters. The male driver was eventually rescued by SES personnel and was not injured as a result of his ordeal.
" It can only be viewed as stupidity, that people willingly drive their vehicle into floodwaters after the many well documented incidents of people losing their lives, being washed down creeks and rivers, partaking in this careless activity. Due to recent rainfall in the Orana area many roads across the district are flooded in sections with deepand fast running water. I'm appealing to drivers to use commonsense and don't drive into flood waters, they are not only risking their lives and the lives of their passengers, but also rescue personnel."
