Along with new upgrades to the accommodation at the complex, Wellington Caves is introducing ‘Mate’s Rates’ to anyone who lives within the new local government boundary. These rates will give residents the opportunity to go on any of the guided tours for half price.
Wellington Caves manager Jodie Anderson said she was excited about the deal.
“Wellington Caves are arguably the most scientifically researched cave system in the country,” Ms Anderson said.
“Scientists and tourists alike have been drawn to the caves from across the country and the world since the 1830s, and its right here in our back yard,” she said.
“Many people I speak to have lived in the area for years and haven’t ventured out to the caves. I want more locals to have the opportunity to experience the wonder that is Wellington Caves and to show it off to their friends and family.”
“It is truly a unique place, from the beauty and awe of Cathedral Cave, the curious story behind the Phosphate Mine that operated 100 years ago, to the mystery surrounding 1000s of bones found in the caves from giant Australian animals,” Ms Anderson said.
The caves are an easy drive from anywhere in the local government area and make for the perfect day trip. Aside from the tours, the caves complex has a lot to offer including a beautiful café, barbecue and picnic areas, bird aviary, self-guided fossil trail, an education centre and is right across the road from the Japanese gardens and Wellington Golf Course.
Ms Anderson said the caves complex was one those places that ignites your curiosity and keeps you wanting to know more.
“If this is something you have never seen, or haven’t seen for a while, then the new mate’s rates gives you the perfect opportunity to drive out and take a look,” Ms Anderson said.
To qualify for mate’s rates at the Wellington Caves Complex, you will need to have photo identification with proof of residence.
