On police arrival police encountered a number of youths aged between 16 and 18, on the street in an intoxicated state, displaying anti social behaviour. Whilst speaking to the youths police were approached by the occupant of a residence on Aspen Road who stated that she was the host of a 16 year old birthday party and had a number of intoxicated youths on her property. She had tried to stop the party at midnight but the youths in attendance were refusing to leave and sort police assistance to move on the party goers.
Police entered the residence and were confronted with about 40 youths, both male and female, in varying stages of intoxication, some displaying belligerent behaviour and initially refusing to leave. After a short time police were able to clear the residence and spent some time moving the crowd on from Aspen Road and surrounding streets, while others were picked up by their parents. One 17 year old male youth had to be restrained by police when he lashed out towards an officer after being required to move on out of the area. He was initially arrested and his details taken. He was then taken home and handed over to his parents. No charges will be laid. Numerous police resources were tied up for some time dealing with this matter and ensuring the mob caused no damage to property in the street. The host of the party, mother of the birthday boy, was spoken to about the amount of alcohol that was at the party and she was given advice about holding responsible parties in the future.
"The police are not out there to stamp out people having fun and enjoying themselves, but it is not ok to hold an underage teenage party where the underage invitees are allowed to bring alcohol and consume it freely as they wish. These kids don't realise some of the dire consequences that can unfold and how much at risk they can be when intoxicated and therefore most would not be aware when it is prudent to stop drinking.
