The Magpies led 18-nil at the break and were in command throughout.

The opening minutes were tight, with both defences hitting hard but the visitors had plenty of ball and eventually winger Chris Kirby skirted around Cowboy defenders to open the scoring on the back of some poor defence.

Forbes had more chances to score but spilled the football near the line but after 28 minutes second-rower Ben McGuire surged over and before half-time centre Ethan Gaffney chased down a smart kick placed between defenders to add to the score and Tracie Merritt, who converted all tries, was faultless.

Gaffney scored in the first minute after the break to blow the score out to 22-nil, with Merritt again not missing the extras.

Wellington had to find something to break open the Magpie defence and captain coach Lewis Stanley pushed through the opposition armoury to gain the first points for his side.

Kotoni Staggs, who scored a hat-trick of tries in Wellington under-18s' victory, using his special talent stepped in and out of defenders to score a special try of his own from 40 metres out.

With the score at 24-10, for a while things were looking respectable for the home side.

Wellington had the services of Joe Williams at pivot and his leadership helped them a lot but really Forbes were in total control.

When Michael Mitchell waltzed through a lazy gap, Kirby got over again and then McGuire chalked up two more tries, and three for the day, it wrapped up a disappointing day for home town fans.

Forbes won the women's league tag match 12-4, Wellington's only win came in the under18s 46-8 and the Magpies won 52-16 in reserve grade.
