The NSW Deputy Premier Troy Grant and Member for Dubbo handed a petition signed by many in the community to NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli.
Mr Grant said school security had been raised by the Wellington community, which presented Mr Grant with a petition calling on the NSW government to fund a security fence for Wellington Public School.
Mr Grant said he personally presented the petition to Mr Piccoli on behalf of the Wellington community in Parliament last month.
"Security of public buildings, including schools is a priority for the community and the government," Mr Grant said.
There continues to be problems with children using the school grounds as a hiding place to throw rocks at passing motorists.
"The Wellington community have raised their concerns with me and I have listened, I will continue to fight until the funds to erect the fence are secured in the 2016/17 state budget."
On Wednesday, Mr Grant announced Dubbo College Delroy Campus would receive a new security fence.
Mr Grant said there had been a number of security incidents at the school and the security upgrade, in conjunction with other measures, would help to reduce this risk.
"Schools are community assets and this security upgrade, will help to reduce the risk of incidents," said Mr Grant.
"This project is part of the $450 million committed by the Liberals and Nationals government to enhance public school infrastructure in the 2015-16 budget," Mr Grant added.
