Carole Bagaric says a low-cost model of decorating, display and innovation will spruce up the facades of local businesses and also create and drive an interest in the central business district.
She told an event organised by the Wellington Business Chamber and the Orana Regional Business Enterprise Centre there was a way of getting customers into the front door and having them leave with bucket load of goods.
"You have to sell the story of shop and give people a real shopping experience when the customer is there," she said.
"Create a floor plan, identify zones and help control the customer through things like hot zones which catch the eye."
She used the Ikea brand as an example of creating space for customers to visit and explained floor markings with arrows and customer related directional signage which engaged those who visit the retail store.
A good crowd attended and its expected the Chamber will organise more events of this type.
