Norm Smith and Steve Kiss grew moustaches for Movember to remember Sandy, with about 30 others joining them in the effort.
Sandy was Steve's brother and Norm's cousin.
"I think its pretty unbelievable for a town the size of Wellington to raise this sum of money, it wasn't just farmers," Mr Smith said.
Their efforts were recognised as the 11th highest total in Australia.
In the past few days the farmers rallied to raise a staggering amount of money, finishing with fundraisers at the swim point-score on Friday and the Cow and Calf Hotel on Saturday night.
"Many people related to the story of Sandy, who took his own life," Mr Smith said.
"It has raised the issue of mental health and hit a raw nerve. Everybody knew him and we were great mates.
"Many of the donations were small and were people who knew Sandy. It has been very emotional but people have been great."
