Children at Nanima Preschool were excited by the arrival of safety seats for their new bus thanks to the AH&MRC Aboriginal Child Seat Restraint Project, initiated by the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of NSW (AH&MRC) and funded by Transport Roads and Maritime Services.

As part of the program, social and emotional wellbeing team leader of WACHS Cherie Colliss said it had been a rewarding experience to deliver the child seats throughout the community andeducate carers on how to fit them.
"It's the safety of the children and being aware they are coming over the hill each day," she said.
It's not just the 19 kids on the bus, it's many more because difference kids use them throughout different days of the week."
At WACHS Denise Barwick and Cherie Colliss said it was still important to get information out there on tips for usage such as the importance of attaching the restraint to a proper anchorage point.
The pair did a two-day workshop in Sydney, and earlier in the year they had a fitting day where families who came in for health checks or were part of the mothers' group came along and had restraints properly fitted in their cars.
