At 3.30pm this Wednesday December 2, Wellington Library is throwing a party for young readers to launch the Summer Reading Club!
There will be games, book displays and it is also a great opportunity for children or young adults to pick up a Summer Reading Club kit.
It is all free, and includes age appropriate activity books, book recommendations, stickers and a reading log to record your reading so that you can win prizes during December and January!
This fun program is designed to encourage children of all ages to engage their imaginations and continue to read during the summer holidays.
For more information or to let us know you're coming, give the library a call on 6845 2156.
Keep an eye on this column too for the school holiday activities which will be available in January - there's plenty to come!
What do Kubrick, Tarantino and Scorsese have in common?
If film directors play their cards right, fans will attend a film purely for the sake of seeing something created by their idols, and these great names have all gained a following in cinema circles.
If you have watched and enjoyed films from across the decades, Great Film Directors: A to Z is a fantastic compilation of some of the best and the most successful.
With film photos, clear layout and fun, clever portraits of each director, this book can remind you of some of the films you have enjoyed and point out others you may have missed by that director, or give you ideas for further viewing.
Each section has a brief summary of the themes focused on by each director and some of their most significant films.
If you are stumped as to what movies to track down, come and take home this little guide and widen your viewing horizons.
Are you a DIY addict?
If you're not, you can become one with Furniture Hacks And Other Creative Updates for a Unique and Stylish Home by Hester van Overbeek.
With gorgeous photography for each step of the creative process, both small and larger project ideas are covered for each area of the house.
My favourite hacks from this book are the Fabulous Flatware which sees boring knives and spoons receive a lick of colour and the Quirky Candle Stick idea.
Those with more time may also love the Outdoor Bench, Four Poster Bed or Graphic Filing Cabinet.
The styling is very contemporary and the looks are fresh and exciting, often using upcycled materials. Creative people should have great fun inspiring themselves by flicking through this new book!
There may be some great DIY Christmas gift ideas within the covers!
