"This is a very significant and important building. It has local and state historical significance and gives it an insight into NSW Tourism development," he said.
Mr Griffin said there were layers of stories from the area that formed part of an exciting development.
His support for the complex comes as Old Dubbo Gaol was nominated among the top 100 bucket list choices by Australia and New Zealand touring and attractions company Experience OZ + NZ.
Wellington councillor Rod Buhr discussed with Mr Griffin about the bucket listing.
"Robert will develop a conservation management plan for the old police station goal complex which will assist council in the future preservation of the site," Cr Buhr said.
"Just as important the plan will outline potential future uses for the site.
"It's a great shame that a building of such state historical significance has been left for so long under utilised.
"Council can determine a future use for the building. My preference is that it become a multi-function building housing our visitor information centre, police and historical museum.
"If we plan this right it could become a great financially self-sustaining tourism draw card for the town."
