For Wellington farmer Tony Inder, however, it was worth every dollar. He was won over by the thickness of the wool cut and knew this ram from Pooginook would take his stud, Allendale, to the next level.
He has always bought from the Pooginook stud in Jerilderie ever since he purchased its daughter stud 15 years ago from Eric Woods of Peak Hill.
The Pooginook stud has been around since 1949 and Mr Inder said he had noticed his stud improve significantly during the past five years, since buying from them.
He named his ram Pooginook Nick after mate Nick Knowles who came on the trip with him.
It has been a busy time for the Inders, getting the last-minute preparations ready for the Springfest Sheep Shindig to be held at the historic barn of their Nyrang homestead.
There are still a few tickets left and buses will be leaving the Cow and Calf, taking people back home to their doorsteps for a shared fee.
At the ball, the Inders have prepared tables with Wellington themes and interesting information on everything from Burrendong Dam and WATS to the Garden Club and Binjang.
