To celebrate the centenary of the Cooee Recruitment March from Gilgandra to Sydney in 1915, participants are once again marching along the same route 100 years later.
The march to inspire new recruits to fight for king and country in the Great War has become part of Australian folklore.
Sadly the men who joined the march discovered the reality of war was vastly different to the adventure many had anticipated.
Most went to the Western Front and many never returned.
The original 515km (320 miles) Cooee recruitment march left Gilgandra with 26 marchers on October 10, 1915 and arrived in Sydney two months later when the number of recruits had swelled to 263.
When the marchers arrived at Martin Place on November 12, 2015 Prime Minister Billy Hughes and a reported 100,000 Sydneysiders were there to welcome the Cooees.
The success of the march was the inspiration for similar recruitment marches in New South Wales and Queensland later that year and early 1916.
In each of the towns the Cooees rested, they demonstrated their military drills and gave passionate recruitment speeches.
News of their journey quickly marched ahead of them and when they arrived in towns such as Wellington they were greeted by cheering crowds, school children waving flags and brass bands.
The public is invited to cheer on and support those in the re-enactment, which is part of Australia's 2015 Anzac centenary celebrations.
The re-enactment will arrive in Wellington Shire on Wednesday October 21 when the marchers enter Geurie at 4pm for a service and overnight stay.
They will then spend time in Maryvale, Wellington, Mumbil, Stuart Town and Euchareena.
The itinerary is:
Wednesday October 21: 4pm - Arrive in Geurie for service and overnight stay.
Thursday October 22: 12pm - Arrive in Maryvale for service and lunch at Maryvale Hall. 4.30pm - Arrive in Wellington for street parade, service at Cameron Park cenotaph and overnight stay.
