Plans with their choreographer fell through for the year 5/6 dance group and when it looked like they might have to forfeit, student Charlotte Boland stepped up to the the challenge a week before they hit the stage.
She spent the whole day coming up with the choreography and then the girls got to work, spending all of their recess and lunch hours practising their contemporary dance.
"It was daunting, the idea of getting it done in a week," Charlotte said, adding that she felt like one of the mums by the end of it.
The hard work paid off with a first place and locals said the dance was stunning, but what mattered the most for Charlotte was making sure all of her friends had a special role in the dance.
"It was awesome," her friend Louise Roberts said.
She felt it was a chance to learn about technical things like timing as well as partnerwork, trust and channelling your emotions into dance.
"It's a way of showing how you feel," she said.
Both the year 3/4 and the year 5/6 groups took out first place in their sections with scores of 98/100.
Last year Wellington Public School won the best overall school group and while Canobolas won this year, our local stars are hoping to make a comeback next year for the 40th Wellington Eisteddfod.
