The first grade side leaped past Forbes with a 32-26 victory with plenty of positives captain coach Justin Toomey White who scored the opening try at Kennard acknowledging the hard work and grit.
His 4 pointer was followed by Brayden Peachey who continues to prove he is one of the emerging stars of the Cowboys in 2015.
Forbes did hit back but the ever reliable Ken Everson stormed over before the break and Ethan Ryan also grabbed points outwide. Lewis Stanley was impressive in the boot for a 22-10 lead over Forbes at half time.
The magpies struck back after the break but when evergreen forward Ben McGregor went over for a much deserved try the Cowboys had a ten point buffer. McGregor’s surging runs and defence have been a highlight for many years and again in 2015.
Forbes rallied back twice but with only a minute to spare Lewis Stanley scored on the left and the Cowboys had won and set up a thrilling run to those big matches in August and September.
The reserve grade and Under 18’s did go down but look certain to figure when the finals begin but its Cobar sunday and then home to complete the Tooheys Group 11 rugby season proper and then..let the finals begin.
