The inquiry will assist with providing important information regarding the closure of small schools in NSW and assist schools and school communities with longer-term planning.
P&C Federation are pleased the inquiry is under way and looks forward to the findings made by the committee. We are particularly interested in the transparency of the consultation process surrounding school closures and the impact on local school communities affected by school closures.
Every school that closes is tragic. For many small communities, the school is the hub of their district, when a school closes in such small and tight communities there is significant impact on the community and more importantly the students.
Small schools provide fantastic learning environments and it is important that parents and students have the choice of a school that is accessible to their community.
P&C Federation is particularly concerned by recent changes to school classifications that could see small schools have shared principal roles.
The possibility of an associate principal who would be located at a separate campus is a major concern for our schools and school communities.
P&C Federation believes that every school needs a Principal, to ensure the unique characteristics of each school and community are retained for the benefits of all students.
P&C Federation reminds our affiliates, at the very least, be engaged, have your say and be involved in these very significant discussions that will impact education, public education and the educational experiences of our children.
We ask our affiliates to focus their discussions on their child, their school community and protecting their right to a free and inclusive education that suits their community's needs.
