After the huge success of the Mt Arthur Challenge of 2014, the committee has come back for another year!
The event which will run on Sunday July 12 is set to bring an even bigger crowd and again promote one of Wellington's best natural assets, the Mt Arthur Reserve.
"We have had a lot more interest this year from competitors and also sponsors this time around, seeing as it is the event's second year we are hoping for an even bigger crowd," Mt Arthur Challenge Committee chair Paul Bradford said.
The event includes two running events and one road cycling event.
The running events, including the 5km 'Wallaby Run' and the 9km 'Wedgetail Challenge', depart from the Wellington Showground and ascend Mt Arthur following marked walking trails and cover some relatively rough terrain, both uphill and downhill.
The 50km Limestone bicycle ride heads out on sealed roads through the Mt Arthur Reserve and as far as Arthurville, returning to the Showground via Curra Creek.
The professionalism of the event is second to none with racers receiving official race bibs with timing chips, participation medals and an event souvenir on completion.
The committee is urging everyone who enjoys a challenge to participate and help put this local event on the map.
"If we can grow this event, it can benefit the whole community, and even if you want to walk the course, participate in the 5km Wallaby Run, it's a great course, not too steep and something fun you can do with your friends," committee member Kellsey Melhuish said.
Participating in the event is also a great way to support the Mt Arthur Trust (the volunteers who look after the Reserve).
"Any profit made from the event will go back into funding the massive task of managing the Reserve" Committee and Trust Secretary Erica Baigent said.
"The event is also great promotion for the Reserve, as well as Wellington"
Registrations close July 8.
