The Reds are Mudgee's second side and were no match for the rampaging Redbacks.
Noah Cox crossed the strip for the first of his two after just two minutes causing the flood gates to open.
Barton Redfern got a hat-trick, Nick Murray and Travis Elwell, who has come back to us this year, both got a double by half time,
Wellington were up 34 to nil, even Zac McManus was looking for a replacement and he was only running the water.
The second half started in the same fashion when Will Allen, who could easily be mistaken for Fabio, weaved his way through for a try.
Will Cosier chimed in with a barging run close to the line to claim a nice 5 pointer of his own, even though kicking conditions were perfect our conversion rate was very poor but maybe our luck will come in the close games when we need it.
Mudgee were short of players so in the true spirit of the game some of our boys helped them out during the second half, I overheard the Mudgee coaches saying how the borrowed players were talking to their side and encouraging them to keep going even though they were getting badly beaten, so congratulations to those boys they make the Wellington club proud.
Final score:
Wellington 56 - Mudgee Red Nil
Lachlan Carney - 3 points
Barton Redfern - 2 points
Travis Elwell - 1 point.
Under-17s was a different story when they played Mudgee's top side that come into the match third on the ladder.
Mudgee had hammered the Redbacks in their first encounter early in the season but at that time Wellington were desperately short of players with only 10turning up on the day.
With seven more players now registered confidence among the ranks is extremely high making for a torrid encounter.
Brad McCarroll weaved his way through the middle in the fourth minute to score and Kotoni Staggs laid one on after that, making us look pretty comfortable. Mudgee then struck back and the wrestle continued.
Matt Maher, who only has one game left before he has a knee operation, was certainly making the best of it ploughing through the rucks and slamming into the defence.
Tom Swainston switching between half and five eight was absolutely superb leaving his team mates in no doubt if they run the ball Tom will be right on the tail.
Wellington scored again before the break making it 17 to 5 in their favour.
Brad McCarroll who had his hand stepped on by a team mate looked unlikely to return for the second half until someone arrived with a bag of frozen peas, a miracle was witnessed as he returned for a stella second half performance leaving people saying Oh McCain you've done it again.
His father Mus who was wandering around all morning complaining about his sore back was so impressed that he grabbed the bag of peas and said he was taking them home to rub all over himself.
His wife has since been to Coles with a trolley full of frozen peas.
Anyway back to the game the Redbacks scored gain and looked to have the game in hand Mudgee had other ideas when there representative fullback put on a absolute cracker of a run through a wall of defence to score near the posts but it wasn't enough to inspire his troops, Wellington consolidated there lead with another try the final score certainly did not accurately portrait just how tough a game it had been.
Wellington 41 -
Mudgee 12.
