Many thanks to the Wellington Bowling Club for the loan of their portable dart boards and to the Wellington Hotel for the sponsorship of the semi-finals.
Eugene Spicer has been voted in as president of the Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club Darts Challenge. Allan Brown has been voted in to the vacated treasurer's position.
New president Eugene Spicer would like to thank David Wilson for the various positions he has held on the darts committee since the commencement of matches in Wellington and to Greg Whiteman who has been treasurer for the past couple of years and for putting the darts club in a very strong financial position.
Nominations for the winter competition can now be left with the secretary, Teena Hill, and must be in by grand final night June 1.
There will be no late entries and please just nominate your team, not the players.
Any player needing new points for their darts can see Greg Whiteman as he can fix them for you for the small price of $10.
Greg Whiteman's reign with the belt was short-lived like other players during the past couple of weeks. Scott Dutfield defeated him by 2 legs to 1.
In the major semi-final of the Shield, the Central Hotel Wood Cutters played the Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club Phantom.
The Phantoms could not have got off to a better start by winning the first three games and only needing to win one more game to go straight into the grand final.
However, the Wood Cutters came back and won the next three games to send it in to a team's game.
In the doubles Allan and Jason Brown defeated Ken Sutton and Rod Hampstead 2-1, and Alf Wilson and Richard Kent defeated Eugene Spicer and Lea Sutton 2-1.
Singles results were Alf Wilson defeating Lea Sutton 2-0, Allan Brown losing to Eugene Spicer 0-2, Richard Kent lost to Rod Hampstead 0-2 and Parish Petrovic lost to Ken Sutton 1-2.
The team's game was close with both teams getting plenty of shots at the double but in the end the Central Hotel Wood Cutters hit it to claim a comeback win by 4 games to 3. They will now move straight into the grand final.
In the minor semi-final the Wellington Hotel TBGs played the Federal Hotel Old Time Feddys, who were going to do it tough being one player short in this match.
The doubles matches were shared but it was in the singles that the TBGs got on top, finishing off the match for them.
Doubles results were Greg Whiteman and Dave Stace defeating Tre Ball 2-0 and David Wilson and Nyoka Boney lost to Scott Dutfield and Nikkie Ball 1-2.
In the singles results Greg Whiteman lost to Scott Dutfield 1-2, David Wilson defeated Tre Ball 2-0, Dave Stace defeated Nikkie Ball 2-0 and Andrew Phillips won on a forfeit.
Final result was Wellington Hotel TBGs 4, the Federal Hotel Old Time Feddys 2. This means the TBGs are still in it to defend their title.
In the major semi-final of the Cup the Federal Hotel Thumpers, who hold the Cup at the moment, were taking on the Wellington Bowling Club Cracker Jacks, who always seem to come good near the end of the competition.
The Thumpers couldn't have started any better by winning the doubles games only to see the Cracker Jacks come back and win the next three games leaving it up to the Thumpers to win the last singles to take it to the teams' game.
Doubles results were Steve Ebzury and Colin Maguire defeating Trevor Messenger and Ken Fairley 2-1, and Graeme Kent and Shane Mitchell defeated Robert Driscoll and Cindy Croker 2-1.
Singles results were Shane Mitchell lost to Jason Cornish 0-2, Graeme Kent lost to Cindy Croker 0-2, Steve Ebzury lost to Ken Fairley 0-2 and Colin Maguire defeated Robert Driscoll 2-1.
The teams' game decided who would go straight into the grand final of the Cup and the Federal Hotel Thumpers will get the chance to hold on to it by winning the game and the match, 4 games to 3.
In the final match the Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club SS Soldiers played the Wellington Hotel Bulls who have shared the matches of the competition.
The SS Soldiers did finish the competition with 4 wins to the Bulls 1.
Doubles games were shared as were the singles, so the team's game decided who would play again next week.
Philippe Bell and Tania Button defeated Scott Reid and Kirsty Wilson 2-1, and Mal Nunn and Margie Mills lost to Carolyn Temessl and Bev MacKay 0-2.
Singles results were Vicki Button who lost to Scott Reid 0-2, Margie Mills defeated Tracey Reid 2-1, Teena Hill lost to Wendy Wilson 1-2 and Mal Nunn defeated Kirsty Wilson 2-1.
The Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club SS Soldiers are out of the competition as the Wellington Hotel Bulls hit the winning double to go on to next week and play in the final.
