The Cowboys came from behind to win on the hooter 36-34 thanks to brilliant tries from Ethan Ryan and Tjapaki Shaw and a sideline conversion from Brayden Peachey.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the first minute hooker Luke Matheson scored, Ryan Rogers converted on the back of a stunning right side movement.
But within seconds Toomey White’s big frame was spinning out of tackles to score and Lewis Stanley levelled the scores.
Stanley set up the second Cowboys try to Ken Everson wheeling a brilliant left side pass.
When Nyngan full back Byron Warren was on the end on a spectacular flowing movement from side to side the Tigers has rallied back , all this in space of 12 minutes.
The match began to settle and only a decisive run by fullback Warren Peachey wonderfully backed up by Kiyan Shaw produced the real difference and Justin Toomey White had a double just before the half time spell for a Wellington 22-10 lead.
The opening match of the season for Wellington and Nyngan was scrappy at times but full of entertainment and Byron Warren was determined to get his side back into match running over for his second try.
22-16 and Cowboys half back Richard Peckham found space and alongside him a bullocking Toomey White who stormed over for his hat trick.
For a while the home side was powering but Nathan Matheson swerved and swayed out of tackles after Mitchell Rixon had broken into the clear then Damien Smith grabbed a double with scintillating acceleration and all of a sudden it was the Tigers with a full head of steam 34-26.
The clock was running down and Wellington were faltering, players injured but something turned the switch on and Ken Everson surged into the open and on the right side winger Ethan Ryan loomed and scampered over to put Wellington within 4 points.
A minute left and with Nyngan attacking the ball went down and so did their chances Tjapaki Shaw made a sizzling run down the left hand touchline to score.
It levelled the match and Brayden Peachey was left to attempt a victory which seemed so far away. Regular Cowboys kicker Lewis Stanley struggled off with an injury and young Brayden Peachey fired the winning points from the sideline to produce one of those unbelievable results 36-34 to Wellington.
Captain coach Justin Toomey White said they were lucky.
‘’We were down on troops, our bench was tired and they came with only one purpose to beat us but we were fantastic. A tough game against a very tough side who went the whole nine yards’’
