Wellington win Brewery Shield Final

Its the first time Wellington has won the trophy in 32 years.

Wellington captain Brad Johnson said it was a real team effort.

‘’Our fielders and bowlers put the pressure on from the opening and myself and James were getting wickets on the back of some very strong defence’’ he said.

Dubbo batted first Hayden Crean struck early then Brad Johnson (3/17) and James Cusack ( 4/38) skittled batsman in an impressive display. Ben Knaggs with 31 top score for Dubbo.

Wellington also lost early wickets but Keiran Brien 35 and Brad Crean 21 not out took control and in the end powered home.

Wellington finished 5/110 with plenty of overs to spare and celebrated the win.

Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers and South Australia star Tim Ludeman will play in Wellington as part of the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) Masters Tour on 21 - 23 March 2015.

Joining Ludeman will be Queensland legend and former Australian batsman Stuart Law, along with former Australian and NSW women's captain Lisa Sthalekar.

The players will take on a representative team of Wellington cricketers in an action packed Twenty20 game on Sunday 22 March at Pioneer Park in Wellington as well as take part in a range of other activities. The match will commence at 1.00pm, with entry just a gold coin donation.

The Tour is supported by the Wellington Council and Wellington District Cricket Association.

Ludeman, an explosive wicketkeeper and opening batsman, smashed the fastest 50 in Big Bash League history this season, reaching his half-century in just 18 balls en route to a career best 92 not out against the Melbourne Stars.

The 27 year-old finished seventh on the run-scoring table for the 2014-15 BBL, with his 253 runs coming at a strike rate of 142.93.

The right-hander has confirmed his place on the tour, subject to South Australia and his Grade side, Port Adelaide, missing the finals.

Former Queensland coach Law joins the ACA Masters following a career that saw him play 54 ODI matches and a solitary Test - in which he scored an unbeaten half-century - for Australia. He enjoyed a glittering first-class career of 367 matches (with an average of 50.52) including Queensland's maiden Sheffield Shield triumph.

Sthalekar played eight Tests and 125 ODIs for Australia and remains the only woman to score 1,000 runs and take 100 wickets in the shorter format. Her international career spanned 12 years and included two titles in each of the 50 over and T20 World Cups. The right-hander is also a member of the ACA Executive.

The trio of Ludeman, Law and Sthalekar join the previously named Greg Matthews, Terry Alderman, Peter Sleep, Jimmy Maher, John Davison and Joe Dawes.

The tour will also include a Mayoral Reception, golf, lawn bowls, breakfast, in2CRICKET coaching clinics for primary school children, and the ACA Youth Scholarship - which will be awarded to a promising local player aged 15-18 years following the match. This prize will include a bursary as well as a year's worth of mentoring from one of the ACA Masters players.

The Masters program has been developed by the ACA, the official representative body of past and present players, with a focus on the promotion of cricket. The program helps local cricket associations to raise funds and identify local talent.

The tour program has been primarily funded by the current first-class and Australian players as part of their commitment to developing the game in regional Australia and engaging with local communities.
