Instead of the traditional first day of school, kindergarten have been gradually preparing for the beginning of their schooling since last year, this week coming in to Wellington Public School for their Best Start assessments before their schooling begins next week.

Relieving assistant principal Katie Hawke said the Best Start Assessment allowed teachers to gauge the students’ strengths and weaknesses to give them the best start possible.
She said it was also an exciting time for the school which was in its third year of implementing L3 with very encouraging results.
This year kindergarten has a record 90 students, taking the class number up to five.
