Mr Gee said 41,970 Murray Cod and 84,324 Golden Perch were released into Burrendong Dam at Wellington and the Macquarie River at Geurie under the NSW Government’s Freshwater Stocking Program during 2013 to 2014.
“The NSW Government is committed to supporting the one million recreational fishers and regional communities through State-wide freshwater fish stocking programs,” Mr Gee said.
“The release of these fish into our inland waterways provides huge benefits, by boosting tourism and providing economic opportunities for regional economies.
“NSW Government hatcheries across the State have produced significant numbers of fish to ensure populations remain strong.
“The Narrandera Fisheries Centre successfully produced native fish, with the highlight being 526,500 Murray Cod stocked into our dams,” Mr Gee said.
The NSW Government’s freshwater fish stocking program is supported by funds from the NSW Recreational Fishing Trusts.
The fingerlings stocked in inland waters in NSW will be fully grown and able to be fished in two to three years’ time. For more information, visitwww.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/info/stocking.
