''The Cup is difficult enough with the massive field of 23 and mixture of seen and unseen internationals against the locals.
The top raters detailed are from our time form, distance predictor and based on solid tempo speed maps.
We’ve rated the journey at 3min 18sec on a good Flemington track and these have the abilities to get within two seconds of the time.
I’ve spoken to a couple of respected punters who have told me they are avoiding the Flemington meeting completely, they feel too much favours the bookmakers.
We’ll have the complete set of metro raters out by 9am tomorrow morning.
Enjoy the spectacle and consider the punt risks always increase the bigger the fields.

Early thought for Flemington Saturday .
Forget the niceties the fact is Melbourne racing hates horses from Sydney a tradition documented in thousands of races there for well over a century.
Flemington Saturday two Sydney boom youngsters take on Australia’s finest and are well placed to extract over $1 million from the abundant Cup carnival prize pool.
Race 7
The wagering agencies for $1.5m G1 VRC Derby over 2500m quite rightly have Hampton Court a firm $2.60 favourite. His win in the G1 Champion Stakes in record time was simply stunning and to add to his credentials he drops a kilo. Time lines alone horses likeMoonovermanhattan and Preferment (who is yet to win a race) will both need significant improvements to threaten the form of Hampton Court.
Race 9
And while the racing fan “sprint fever” has somewhat plateaued Sydney training team Hawkes have the undefeated Deep Field well prepared to take down many experienced and multiple Group winners in the last race of the day at 5.15pm.
His four starts have a combined winning margin of over 23 lengths and while this will be by far his toughest race to date he has yet to be fully extended.
The charge up the Flemington straight looks the only query as he will be charging down the outside part of the track…..punters are on an hourly vigil to ensure this running lane is not doctored and Deep Field keeps his record intact.
The Punters Mate – Winning Ways
Race 6
Crystal Ball eyes Foreteller at big odds
$1m MacKinnon Stakes over 2000m
Several here should enjoy better racing fairness and being on a decent race track after unhappy last starts at Moonee Valley.
Eye catching were Side Glance and Foreteller who did great work late with limited opportunities. Criterion is also a much better horse than appears in the results column another smashed by inferior racing that happens at the Valley.
The Punters Mate on early mail review has an edge to Foreteller who had more bad luck than Side Glance in running and just missed in the Cox Plate.
One thing is for certain this field will have a better opportunity to show their abilities than they did last start.
